Application Information

The 2010 JET Program On-Line Application is now available!

Click below to begin after you have read through the information on this site, especially under Job Descriptions and Terms & Conditions. The JET Program application is a long application that will take some time to complete. Do not wait until the last minute. You will need to gather and prepare many supplemental documents to accompany your application, as explained under Required Documents. Please note that you can create an account, begin your online application and then return to it at a later date. You will have the option to save it and continue working on it later.

There is no hard copy application this year. If this is a problem for you, please contact your nearest JET Program Office. Contact information can be found here.

Before you apply for the JET Program, you must first make sure you meet the following eligibility requirements. Further information about can be found on our Job Descriptions page.

You must:

  1. be a US citizen (by application deadline. If not, see note below to non-US citizens);
  2. earn your Bachelors degree by July 1, 2010;
  3. in principle, be less than 40 years of age as of April 1, 2010;
  4. not have lived in Japan for 6 or more years (since 2000); *NEW for 2010*
  5. not have been a former JET participant in the last 3 years; *NEW for 2010*
  6. have excellent English skills (both spoken and written);
  7. have a genuine interest in Japan.

ALT applicants do not need TEFL/TESL certification or other education credentials, but these are beneficial. If you have questions about these qualifications, please see Job Descriptions for details.

CIR applicants must have a strong command (semi-advanced to advanced level) of the Japanese language.

 

ONLINE APPLICATION PROCEDURE

 

You can apply to the 2010 JET PRogram following these four steps:

1. Apply Online: Answer all questions on the application form, including those on the Self-Assessment Medical Form.

2. Print: Download and print the PDF of your application.

3. Sign: Sign your application on all necessary pages (Application Form, Authorization and Release Form, Self-Assessment Medical Form).

4. Send all Required Documents to the JET Program Office at the Embassy of Japan. You may hand deliver your application or send via postal mail. You must deliver or send your application to be received by 5:30pm EST, November 24, 2009 to:
