The Japan Information and Culture Center, Embassy of Japan is pleased to once again participate in the Kids World Cinema Children's Film Festival!
Now in its third year, this unique festival aims to introduce international children's films to Washingtonians, compare significant cross-cultural differences, and inspire the artistic development of DC's children through the discovery of quality foreign films. The festival targets children aged six to thirteen and will showcase a selection of the significant international productions for young audiences.
The JICC will host two short animated films from Japan and Senegal. Following the screenings, children will have the chance to try their hand at origami, the Japanese art of folding paper.

COLUBOCCORO

This sci-fi, eco-conscious fantasy follows Suzu, the 14-year-old descendent of a distinguished shaman who saved people from catastrophe in the past, as she sets out on a journey. With the help of COLUBOCCORO, she must find a way to restore peace and nature to the ruined villages.
With the experience of working under Hayao Miyazaki and his broad animation techniques, 27-year-old creator Kenji Itoso ventures into a wholly new animation expression, aiming for 'a treasure box of images'.
The Whistle

Samba and his wife Coumba are a blind couple. For the past 35 years, they earned their living singing in the streets of Dakar. But one day, a bus strike forces them to walk their way through the fields to get to the city. As they sing, argue, and fight (as all old couples do), they try to imagine what the world looks like. Until they come across a magic whistle...
This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and granted on a first come, first served basis. Open seats will be given to guests on standby when the program begins.
