Ambassador Ryozo Kato's Message to Officials in the Wake of the Bridge Collapse in Minneapolis, MN

August 2, 2007

Dear Governor Pawlenty,

I was shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic bridge collapse in Minneapolis. While words cannot provide adequate consolation to those who have lost loved ones, please know that these families along with their friends and neighbors will be in our thoughts and prayers. I know that your strength, compassion, and leadership during this time of need will provide solace and inspiration to those affected by this tragedy.

I want you to know that on behalf of the Government of Japan and the Japanese people, our thoughts are with all of the citizens of the greater Minneapolis region as they begin the rebuilding process. I have no doubt that the pioneering spirit and community collaboration which built this community in the first place will be the foundation on which it is built again.

Sincerely,

Ambassador Ryozo Kato
