U.S. Military Japan Alumni Association
Gen. Richard Myers pointed out that the U.S. and Japan are like a “rock” in North East Asia, providing the foundation for security and stability. He also recalled his own relationship with Japan when he was assigned there, calling it “close, personal, and substantive”
Gen. Ralph Eberhart stressed how special life in Japan is by stating, “Those of us who have served in Japan would tell you that it was a unique and defining experience both personally and professionally, not only for us but for our families.”
COL George Newman speaking of his wife COL Jane Newman’s rewarding experience in Japan, which also inspired him to serve there and later motivated him to help create the Association.
Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki reaffirmed the importance of the role the association can play by stating, “A security arrangement is not merely a paper, not only a document. It’s a people-to-people relationship, and we are very happy that this association will be one to fortify that friendship between the two peoples.”
