In response to the expanding damage caused by the landfall of Hurricane Katrina, the Government of Japan (GoJ) is going to notify the U.S. Government (USG) that the GoJ is prepared to newly provide, according to the needs of the affected region, emergency assistance supply amounting to up to five hundred thousand dollars (such as large tents, beddings, and first aid kits), as an additional assistance measure contributing to the rescue and relief efforts.
Combining this additional assistance measure and the assistance measures announced on September 2 (i.e. provision of two hundred thousand dollars to the American Red Cross and provision of emergency assistance supply amounting to up to three thousand dollars), the total assistance announced by the GoJ in response to the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina amounts to one million dollars. The GoJ also remains prepared to dispatch Japan Disaster Relief Teams if requested by the USG.
