In response to the damages caused by the landfall of Hurricane Katrina, the Government of Japan (GoJ) has decided to provide $1,000,000-worth of relief assistance. As for GoJ's offer on emergency assistance supplies, U.S. Department of State has requested the GoJ to provide them to the American Red Cross, which currently conducts the largest operation in the affected areas.

The GoJ decided to transport emergency assistance supplies (blankets and sleeping mats) from its storage in Miami, Florida, to Walker, Louisiana, and Montgomery, Alabama, and to provide them to the American Red Cross.
