The Government of Japan has decided to provide grant aid totaling 3.3 million dollars to the Government of the Republic of Iraq with a view to contributing to the following program. "Program for the Police Training and Mentoring in Al Muthanna Province" (FY2005) maximum amount: 3.3 million dollars
As stable security continues to be a priority issue for the Iraqi authorities, strengthening of rule of law in the country and the existence of a police organization trusted by its people are indispensable. Cooperation from donor countries and organizations has been extended for the Iraqi police since the transitional government was established, and the Government of Iraq requested grant aid from the Government of Japan in connection with the cooperation in Al Muthanna Province where the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force is stationed.
In this program, the participants will undergo necessary training as police officers. This includes training in methods of investigation such as collecting and preserving evidence obtained at a crime scene, investigation into serious crimes (murder, robbery, etc.), and communications.
It is expected that the police officers trained under the program will cooperate with local communities during their investigation, win the trust of the people of Iraq , thus contributing to restoring security and building peace in the country.
