Emergency Grant Aid in response of Large-Scale Earthquake Disaster in Pakistan

On October 14 (Fri), the Government of Japan decided to extend an emergency grant assistance amounting to $12 million out of the total amount of $20 million previously decided as the grand aid for the relief efforts for the people affected by the large-scale earthquake in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. With regard to the remaining $8 million the Government of Japan is considering to provide emergency assistance through the international organizations.

Taking into accounts the need for assistance in response to the disaster as well as the friendly relations between Japan and Pakistan, the Government of Japan has decided this emergency grant aid for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

To date, the Government of Japan dispatched the Japan Disaster Relief Team composed of 49 members on October 9, and the Japan Disaster Relief Medical Team composed of 21 members on October 10. In addition, Japan decided to provide emergency assistance supplies (tents etc.) worth $218 thousand on October 9, which were handed to the Government of Pakistan in Islamabad on October 11.
