On December 5, Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Yabunaka and Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Bhatia exchanged recommendations upon the commencement of the sixth-year dialogue of the Regulatory Reform and Competition Policy Initiative.
The recommendations address regulations and measures that respective governments consider to be worthy of improvements by the other partner under this endeavor. Through this exercise the Initiative has contributed to the economic growth of Japan and the United States by reducing unnecessary regulations, strengthening competition and improving market access.
In the sixth-year dialogue of the Initiative, Japan and the United States seek to go further in our joint endeavor. The following are the main points which the Government of Japan intends to discuss with the U. S. Government:
1. Promotion of free trade and fair competition
2. Consistency between U.S. counterterrorism measures and smooth economic and human exchange between Japan and the United States
3. Improvement of business environment for Japanese companies doing international business
Japan and the United States will have a series of meetings for constructive discussion based on the recommendations.
