Embassy of Japan November 5, 2008
1. I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Senator Obama on his election as President of the United States of America.
2. As the world confronts a multitude of serious challenges, I believe that the U.S. will continue to make significant advancements under the able leadership of President-elect Obama, in cooperation with the international community.
3. Both Japan and the U.S. share common values such as liberty, democracy, respect for basic human rights and the promotion of a market economy. The Japan-U.S. alliance is the linchpin of Japanese diplomacy and the cornerstone for peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region. Working together with President-elect Obama, I will strive to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. alliance and to resolve various challenges the international community faces when addressing issues such as the international economy, terrorism, and the environment. |
