(Investor/Business Manager)

 

Activities to commence the operation of international trade or other business, to invest in international trade or other business and to operate or manage that business, or to operate or manage international trade or other business on behalf of foreign nationals (including foreign corporations) who have begun such an operation or have invested in such a business. The business in question must meet certain conditions of scale. Applicants who wish to engage in business management must fulfill certain conditions concerning work status and personal history.

APPLICATION FILED WITH CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY

  1. Applicant's valid passport, properly signed by bearer
  2. VISA APPLICATION FORM TO ENTER JAPAN (available here), completely filled out and signed by the applicant
  3. One photograph (2"x 2") attached to application form
  4. Original "Certificate of Eligibility" from the Ministry of Justice in Japan and one photocopy (For instructions for obtaining the Certificate of Eligibility, have your Sponsor in Japan refer to www.immi-moj.go.jp.)

 

APPLICATION FILED WITHOUT CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY

  1. Applicant's valid passport, properly signed by bearer
  2. VISA APPLICATION FORM TO ENTER JAPAN (available here), completely filled out and signed by the applicant
  3. One photograph(2" x 2") attached to application form
  4. Documents describing business activities: copies of the corporate registration (Tokibo Tohon, issued within last 3 months) and a profit-and-loss statement (Son-eki Keisan-sho) of the business office in Japan (if it is a newly opened business, then a business plan for the next year)
  5. Material showing the number of full-time employees, such as an annual report and a receipt of employment insurance (Koyo Hoken) paid (If the number of full-time employees is less than 3, please submit (a) copy of contracts or wage ledger, and (b) a resident's card or proof of alien registration for each employee.)
  6. Information on the business office such as annual report and a copy of a lease contract.
  7. If you will be working as an executive of the firm on behalf of an alien investor, then a copy of a contract and/or other documents certifying the duties, duration, the position, and the remuneration of the person concerned
  8. If you will be working as a manager of the firm in Japan on behalf of an alien investor, then please submit:
    • Documents certifying the applicant's qualifications, such as employment verification letter certifying an experience at the managerial capacity and/or diploma certifying that the applicant has majored in business/management at a graduate level
    • A copy of a contract and/or other documents certifying the duties, duration, the position, and the remuneration of the person concerned
  9. One clear photocopy of all the documents you are submitting

 

The Embassy of Japan reserves the right to request additional documents if deemed necessary.

 

The Embassy of Japan will not make copies, if you need original documents, please bring the original and one copy.

 

Please allow at least four business days to have your application reviewed. (Cases without the Certificate of Eligibility may take a few months.)
