Shohei Sugiyama is a successful Japanese businessman with a brand new home, a faithful wife, and a pleasant daughter. On the outside he has it all, but he can’t help feeling that something is missing from his life. Then one night on his way home from work, he sees a beautiful young woman gazing hopelessly from the window of a dance studio. Summoning all his courage, he decides to sign up for dance class in the hopes of meeting her. Instead he gets stuck in a beginner’s class full of loveably eccentric students. Soon, the humdrum routine of his everyday life is replaced by the rhythmic beat of the waltz, leaving his wife to wonder what has turned his frown upside down.
Winning more than 50 awards and nominations around the globe and inspiring an all-star Hollywood remake, Shall We Dance? waltzes audiences along on a journey of personal discovery, reminding us of the importance of finding our passion—and the courage to embrace it.
