Cultural Affairs Coordinator

The Japan Information & Culture Center (JICC), Embassy of Japan, is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented individual for the position of Cultural Affairs Coordinator. The main responsibilities of this position include planning and executing cultural events in the JICC auditorium and performing administrative oversight and maintenance of the JICC facility. Please see below for a more detailed list of responsibilities.

The Embassy offers group health insurance coverage, paid vacation, and sick leave. Working hours are 9 AM – 5 PM, Monday through Friday with weeknight and/or weekend events several times a month (paid overtime). Salary is commensurate with experience. The minimum basic monthly salary for this position is $3500.

  • Design, coordinate and present Lecture Programs on Japan for general audiences both in-person and virtually.
  • Assist in the organization and execution of cultural events.
  • Promote JICC Programs and manage reservations for JICC events.
  • Coordinate the upkeep and manage invoices for JICC’s facility in cooperation with maintenance companies and service providers.
  • Manage the JICC item loan program.
  • Draft speeches, statements, remarks, and correspondence as necessary.
  • Respond to public inquires about Japan.
  • Assist the diplomats with administrative tasks, writing, research, yearly attendance reports, the acquisition of services, and the purchasing of items for the JICC.
  • Work closely alongside the Digital Media Coordinator in developing and designing materials for the JICC social media accounts and the JICC website.
  • Monitor and report on news coverage related to Japan, Japanese culture and JICC events.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.
Required Qualifications:
  • Fluent in English
  • Strong public speaking skills and experience delivering presentations
  • Deep knowledge and appreciation of Japanese culture
  • High level of professionalism and respect
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly organized and able to multi-task with varying deadlines
  • Computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Team-oriented self-starter
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with Japanese
  • Research skills
  • Experience managing budgets and expenses
  • Demonstrated success in office management
