Our next virtual J-Film screening is the heartfelt coming-of-age drama Amiko.
An adaptation of IMAMURA Natsuko’s 2010 debut novel Atarashii Musume, this film is the debut of director MORII Yusuke. Morii has been a rising talent in the industry and with this feature debut received critical reception and numerous awards.
Set in a picturesque coastal town in Hiroshima, Amiko is an imaginative and eccentric 5th grader who struggles to connect with those around her. After her family faces an intimate loss, Amiko’s childlike whimsy clashes against with the stark reality around her.
Featuring a captivating performance by newcomer OSAWA Kana and a score by popular folk musician AOBA Ichiko, Amiko is a moving exploration of tragedy, misfortune, and resilience.
Don’t miss the chance to see this outstanding contemporary drama!
