Presented by JICC, Embassy of Japan and the Japan Commerce Association of Washington, DC

From Masayuki Suo, the director of Shall We Dance? and Sumo Do, Sumo Don't.

One day, in the traditional heart of Kyoto, a rough-hewn country girl named Haruko turns up in search of the impossible. In spite of her impenetrable accent (a mix of deep-Southern Kagoshima and Northern Tsugaru), she begs to be given a chance to become the epitome of cultural sophistication: a Kyoto geisha.

She is accepted under the auspices of Kyono, a good-natured professor of linguistics, who rises to the challenge of helping her. Thus begins a roller-coaster ride as Haruko struggles through the harsh training and stern discipline required to be a geisha in this colorful and entertaining musical comedy!
