A Gentle Breeze in the Village | 天然コケッコー J-Film

Presented by JICC, Embassy of Japan and the Japan Commerce Association of Washington DC

Based on the slice-of-life shojo manga “Tennen Kokekko” by Fusako Kuramochi, which was awarded the 20th Kodansha Manga Award.

In a tiny village surrounded by mountains, the six pupils of the combined primary and secondary school have always been more like a family than a student body. Soyo Migita, the oldest and only one in her class, is a cheerful and honest girl who has always enjoyed taking care of her little “brothers” and “sisters” at school.

One day, a new student arrives: the handsome Hiromi Osawa from the big city of Tokyo who becomes Soyo’s sole classmate. Like a celebrity, everyone is enamored with Hiromi and his sophisticated ways. Soyo finds herself flustered by this sudden change and challenge to her top position. However, she cannot deny that Hiromi has stirred new feelings to in her. What unfolds for Soyo is the imperfect, awkward, but realistic experience of adolescent first love.

Winner of Best Screenplay and Music Score at 2008 Mainichi Film Concours. Actress Kaho received the awards for Best New Talent at the 2007 Hochi Film Awards and the 2008 Yokohama Film Festival.
