Thriller

Presented by JICC, Embassy of Japan and Japan Commerce Association of Washington, D.C., Inc.

Our next J-Film is the suspense thriller The Master Plan.

The Japanese word ドッキリ (Dokkiri) refers to both a practical joke and the feeling of being shocked, and you’ll certainly get both of those in this stylish and surprising drama!

Kida (J-pop superstar IWATA Takanori) has experienced this “Dokkiri” feeling countless times thanks to the pranks arranged by his best friend Makoto (ARATA Mackenyu, California-born son of the legendary Sonny Chiba). The childhood friends work together at an auto-garage, where one day a woman named Lisa asks for their help. Makoto is intrigued by the woman and asks her out on a date, but she swiftly turns him down.

This rejection inspires Makoto and Kida to form an elaborate plan to try and win her affection. The plan lifts Makoto up into the upper class of Japanese society, while pushing Kida into a dark and dangerous underworld.

Will the two friends’ schemes succeed, and is there more to their plan than meets the eye? Hold onto the edge of your seat for this thriller's shocking finale!
