What she wanted for her brithday was...a divorce!

A heartwarming comedy from Yoji Yamada (Twilight Samurai, Love and Honor, Tokyo Family) and with music by Joe Hisaishi (Departures, Spirited Away, Hana-bi)

The eldest son of an old couple, Shuzo and Tomiko, lives with his parents along with his wife while their eldest daughter lives with her husband in the same neighborhood. The second son is planning to get married to his girlfriend.

On the surface, they all appear to be leading ordinary, happy lives, but a tempest suddenly hits the family. On Tomiko's birthday, her husband asks her what she wants to which she replies, "A divorce." The family is suddenly thrown into a state of panic to hear this news and eventually each family member begins to divulge their respective grievances.
