2017 Spring Conferment of Decoration
Lieutenant General John L. Dolan

 

On April 29th, 2017 (Japan Time/JST), the Government of Japan announced the foreign recipients of the 2017 Spring Imperial Decorations. Lt. Gen. John L. Dolan, Director of Operations, J3, Joint Staff (Former Commander, United States Forces Japan) is among this year’s foreign recipients, and in recognition of his contributions towards strengthening the relationship and friendship between Japan and the United States of America, he will receive the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun.

SUMMARY OF CONTRIBUTIONS

 

Lt. Gen. Dolan served as Commander of the United States Forces Japan and as Commander of the 5th Air Force from June 2015 to August 2016. As Commander of the United States Forces Japan, Lt. Gen. Dolan contributed to the promotion of the smooth and effective management of the Japan-U.S. Security Arrangement. This further developed Japan's defense capability, and promoted the friendship between Japan and the United States of America.
