Design Coordinator

The Japan Information & Culture Center (JICC), Embassy of Japan, is seeking a highly-motivated, team-oriented individual for the position of Design Coordinator. This position is responsible for the production of promotional assets (print/digital) for events, exhibitions, and other deliverables in line with JICC branding while assisting with the center’s overall publicity needs. Please see below for a more detailed list of responsibilities.

The Embassy offers group health insurance coverage, paid vacation, and sick leave. Working hours are 9AM – 5PM, Monday through Friday with weeknight and/or weekend events several times a month (paid overtime). Salary is commensurate with experience. The monthly pay range for this position is USD $3,800- $6,500. This role is full-time and non-exempt.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for design workflow for exhibitions, events, and other projects: from concept and draft to finalized product or item.
  • Make promotional materials for JICC website, social media, and print, including but not limited to illustrations, flyers, brochures, pamphlets, posters, booklets, and advertisements.
  • Maintain and update the organization’s brand guidelines when necessary.
  • Create custom designs in line with the JICC's brand identity (such as exhibition panels, print media, illustrations, brochures, flyers, logos and graphics etc. per event or project).
  • Work closely alongside the Exhibition Coordinator to support the design of JICC exhibitions. This includes typesetting exhibition panels and window decals or supergraphics.
  • Coordinate budgets and facilitate communication with vendors, printers, and companies to ensure a smooth and timely production workflow.
  • Share and divide publicity tasks when needed with Publicity Coordinator (JICC newsletters, websites, social media accounts, etc.).
  • Assist with research, copywriting, and copy editing based on project needs.
  • Keep and maintain updates on news coverage related to Japan, Japanese culture and coverage of JICC events in the media.
  • Respond to public inquiries about Japan.
  • Assist the diplomats with administrative tasks, writing, and research.
  • Support other staff with JICC events and other office tasks.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Digital portfolio
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro)
  • Fluent in English with advanced proficiency in Japanese highly preferred
  • Deep knowledge and appreciation of Japanese arts & culture
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams/SharePoint), Canva (template creation), and skilled in file management
  • Experience in illustration (Clip Studio Paint Pro is a plus) and web design (understanding of HTML/CSS is a plus)
  • High level of professionalism and respect
