Publicity Coordinator
The Japan Information & Culture Center (JICC), Embassy of Japan, is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented individual for the position of Publicity Coordinator. The main responsibilities of this position include promoting JICC exhibitions and events through press outreach, social media management, website, and other digital and traditional means. The position also performs various office support functions. Please see below for a detailed listing of responsibilities.
The Embassy offers group health insurance coverage, paid vacation, and sick leave. Working hours are 9 AM – 5 PM, Monday through Friday with weeknight and/or weekend events several times a month (paid overtime). Salary is commensurate with experience. The monthly pay range for this position is USD $3,800-6,500.

RESPONSIBILTIES
- Promote Japanese culture and JICC exhibitions and events through press outreach, social media, the JICC’s website, and other digital and traditional platforms, in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Social media management: Oversee day-to-day operations of the JICC’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube), which have a combined following of over 200,000; responsibilities include planning, content creation and evaluating performance through analytics and engagement metrics.
- Press outreach: Coordinate with diplomats and external partners to draft, finalize, and distribute press releases, and maintain communication with media outlets to promote JICC events and initiatives.
- Content creation: Support the design and development of digital and print materials for public distribution (i.e. social media content, email campaigns, flyers, and advertisements).
- Internal coordination: Collaborate with the Embassy’s communications team to align messaging and cross-promote content between the Embassy and JICC social media accounts.
- Event planning and support: Assist with JICC and Embassy events, as well as co-hosted programs involving partner organizations such as professional sports teams, cultural institutions, media outlets, and National Cherry Blossom Festival affiliates.
- Monitor and report on media coverage related to Japan, Japanese culture, and JICC events.
- Responding to public inquiries.
- Assist Public Affairs diplomats with administrative tasks, writing, research, and drafting speeches as needed;
- Support other staff with JICC/Embassy events and general office tasks.
- Perform other duties assigned.
REQUIREMENT
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Marketing or Communications preferred)
- Native-level English proficiency and intermediate-level Japanese proficiency
- Deep knowledge and appreciation of Japanese culture
- Professional use of social media
- Content creation skills (i.e. social media posts, flyers, email campaigns)
- Familiarity with analytics and reporting methods
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and general design principles
- Flexibility and resourcefulness; ability to multitask, follow directions and take initiative
- Open-mindedness and strong teamwork skills
- Passion for communicating Japanese culture to the American public
- Computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Team-oriented aspirational self-starter
PREFERRED
- Japanese cultural immersion experience (i.e. work, study, travel, etc.)
- Familiarity with social media scheduling platforms (i.e. Hootsuite, etc)
- Familiarity with web design and development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.)
- Familiarity with analytics tools
- Experience with photography and photo/video editing)
- Adobe Creative Cloud and/or Canva or other creative platforms familiarity
