Friendship in Bloom: Shared Visions of Sakura
Friendship in Bloom: Shared Visions of Sakura features 250 drawings and haiku composed by elementary school students in Japan and Washington, DC on the theme of sakura (cherry blossoms) to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence and the gift of 250 cherry blossom trees from Japan to the United States.
Visitors can enjoy the kaleidoscope of color, shape, sound, and emotion evoked by a single flower on two sides of the globe. Each student’s work is truly unique and yet, exhibited side-by-side, a shared appreciation for the cherry blossom’s beauty emerges.
The exhibition is the culmination of an exchange project organized by the Embassy of Japan to foster international friendship, mutual understanding, and cultural appreciation between elementary school students in the US and Japan. Join us to celebrate the students’ blooms and the hope for a bright future that they embody!
