Our next J-Film is River, a hysterical and heartfelt time-loop comedy from writer UEDA Makoto and director YAMAGUCHI Junta.
After making a splash with their first collaboration, Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes, Ueda and Yamaguchi reunite to put another clever twist on the time loop genre. When Mikoto (FUJITANI Riko), a young waitress at a historic inn outside Kyoto, steps outside for a breath of fresh air, she finds herself trapped in a time loop. Soon she realizes she's not the only one stuck, and a wildly funny ensemble comedy begins to unfold. While Ueda and Yamaguchi’s signature blend of fast-paced, high-concept humor propels the film forward, at its heart is Mikoto’s quiet journey—not just to understand what’s happening around her, but to confront her own buried feelings.
Come out for this unforgettable comedy and a chance to see our exhibition 心華 Shin Ka: Inner Gardens of Reflection before it closes of May 29th!
