Japan’s Response to the Typhoon Damage in the Philippines
- In order to assist the Philippine Government responding to the massive damage caused by the Typhoon Haiyan, the Government of Japan (GOJ) is currently undertaking the following:
- Dispatching a 25-member medical relief team to the Philippines to provide aid in the wake of the devastation caused by the Typhoon Haiyan
- Dispatching a Self-Defense Forces emergency relief team consisting of 50 members to join in the relief effort
- Extending $10 million in grant aid through international organizations and emergency aid supplies worth up to 60 million yen to the Philippines.
- Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Minister for Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida sent messages to President Benigno S. Aquino III and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert del Rosario respectively, expressing their condolences and sympathies for the loss of many lives and for the many people affected by this disaster and stating that Japan will extend any necessary assistance.
