2015 Fall Conferment of Decoration
The Honorable Samuel R. Berger

 

On November 3rd, 2015 (Japan Time), the Government of Japan announced the foreign recipients of the 2015 Fall Imperial Decorations. The Honorable Samuel R. Berger is one of the 89 foreign recipients and he received the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun in recognition of his contributions to promoting friendly relations and mutual understanding between Japan and the United States.

Mr. Berger played a critical role in formulating and pursuing US policies related to Japan as National Security Advisor to the President. In particular, he has made distinguished contributions in promoting defense cooperation between Japan and the US, as well as strengthening bilateral economic ties. Mr. Berger, as a senior partner of an international consulting firm, further contributed to the development of Japan-US bilateral relations by providing legal advice to the Embassy of Japan in the US, particularly relating to US legal framework.
