2015 Fall Conferment of Decoration
The Honorable Donald Rumsfeld

 

On November 3rd, 2015 (Japan Time), the Government of Japan announced the foreign recipients of the 2015 Fall Imperial Decorations. The Honorable Donald Rumsfeld is one of the 89 foreign recipients and he received the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun in recognition of his contributions to promoting friendly relations and mutual understanding between Japan and the United States.

Ambassador Rumsfeld took an initiative to establish frameworks that allowed exchanges between the US Congress and the Japanese Diet and promoted dialogues between leaders of various fields of the two countries. Also, Ambassador Rumsfeld, as Secretary of Defense, made significant contributions in deepening the security and defense cooperation under the Alliance, while leading the efforts toward the realignment of US forces in Japan.
