2018 Spring Conferment of Decoration
Mr. Robin H. Sakoda

 

On April 29, 2018 (Japan Time), the Government of Japan announced the foreign recipients of the 2018 Spring Imperial Decorations. Former Director for Japan, Office of Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Robin H. Sakoda is among this year’s foreign recipients and, in recognition of his contributions towards strengthening the relationship between Japan and the United States on national defense and promoting understanding of Japan in the United States, he will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.

SUMMARY OF CONTRIBUTIONS

 

Mr. Robin H. Sakoda served as Former Director for Japan, Office of Under Secretary of Defense for Policy from 1994 to 1999 and Former Executive Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of State from 2002 to 2005. Throughout the professional career, he has contributed to deepening the Japan-U.S. defense alliance as a primary officer in charge for consultations with the Government of Japan in the area of defense, including on the revision of the Guidelines of Japan-U.S. Defense Cooperation. In addition, he has made outstanding contributions towards closer relations between Japan and the United States including promoting understanding of Japan in the United States.
