2018 Autumn Conferment of Decoration
Mr. Christopher M.E. Painter

 

On November 3, 2018 (Japan Time), the Government of Japan announced the foreign recipients of the 2018 Autumn Imperial Decorations. Former U.S. Coordinator for Cyber issues, Department of State Mr. Christopher M.E. Painter is among this year’s foreign recipients and, in recognition of his contributions towards promoting cooperation on cybersecurity between Japan and the United States of America, he will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.

SUMMARY OF CONTRIBUTIONS

 

Mr. Painter served as the Coordinator for Cyber Issues at the Department of State from 2011 to 2017. As the Coordinator for cyber issues, Mr. Painter played an important role in promoting cooperation on cybersecurity between Japan and the United States, including establishing the Japan-U.S. Cyber Dialogue and contributing to the adoption of the G7 Principles and Actions on Cyber at Ise-Shima Summit in 2016.
