2021 Autumn Conferment of Decoration
Senator Mazie Keiko Hirono On November 3, 2021, the Government of Japan announced the foreign recipients of the 2021 Autumn Imperial Decorations. Among the recipients is Senator Mazie Keiko Hirono, who will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, in recognition of her significant contributions in strengthening bilateral relations and promoting legislative exchanges between Japan and the United States. SUMMARY OF CONTRIBUTIONS
Senator Hirono, as the first Asian and Japanese American woman to serve in the United States Senate, has played a pivotal role in improving the status of Japanese Americans by representing the voice of Japanese Americans and the Asian community at large. Serving as co-chair of the Congressional Study Group on Japan since 2013, which plays a critical role in enhancing Congress’ understanding of Japan and fostering mutual understanding between the National Diet of Japan and the United States Congress, she has become an indispensable bridge between Japan and the United States, both in and outside the United States Congress. This is yet another opportunity to reaffirm the significance of our alliance, of which leaders like Senator Hirono have been a long-standing supporter. We deeply value our friendship with Senator Hirono and wish to extend our deepest gratitude at this auspicious occasion. # # #
