2026 Spring Conferment of Decoration
Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space and Missile Defense John D. Hill On April 29, 2026 (Japan Time), the Government of Japan announced the 2026 Spring Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals, with John D. Hill, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space and Missile Defense, being one of the recipients. In recognition of his contributions towards promoting cooperation between Japan and the United States in the defense area, he will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.
SUMMARY OF CONTRIBUTIONS
Drawing on the deep understanding of Japan he gained through his service in Japan as a Mansfield Fellow, Mr. Hill made significant contributions to strengthening the Japan-U.S. alliance during his tenure at the U.S. Department of Defense, while also helping to foster a new generation of Japan experts. Through his duties at the Department of Defense, including his achievements as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space and Missile Defense, he made substantial contributions to promoting cooperation between Japan and the United States in the defense area. # # #
