Foreign Minister’s Commendation for FY 2025
Chado Urasenke Tankokai Washington D.C. Association

On August 28, 2025 (Japan Time), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan announced the recipients of the Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY 2025. The Chado Urasenke Tankokai Washington D.C. Association is among this year’s foreign recipients. The Association will receive the Commendation in recognition of their contributions to promoting Chado in the U.S.A.

The Chado Urasenke Tankokai Washington D.C. Association was established in Washington, D.C. in 1979. Based on the philosophy of "Peacefulness through a Bowl of Tea" as advocated by Dr. SEN Genshitsu (Fifteenth-generation Grand Master of Urasenke Tradition of Tea), the Association has been dedicated to promoting Japanese tea culture. Through tea gatherings and classes held at the "Washin-an" tea room opened in 2012, as well as in local communities, the Association highly contributes to fostering friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and the United States.

Every year, the Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas. The Commendations also aim to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public for the activities of the recipients.
