Omotesenke Domonkai, Eastern Region, USA Inc. On September 24, 2026 (Japan Time), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan announced the recipients of the Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY 2026. Omotesenke Domonkai, Eastern Region, USA Inc. is among this year’s recipients. They will receive the Commendation in recognition of the promotion of Chanoyu in the United States. Omotesenke Domonkai, Eastern Region, USA Inc. was founded in New York in 2010. Since then, it has served as one of the four overseas branches of the Omotesenke Domonkai, hosting seasonal tea ceremonies open to the general public in the New York Metropolitan Area, Washington, D.C., Florida, the Philadelphia Special District, and the Seattle Special District. In addition to tea ceremonies for the general public, they also hold annual events such as tea ceremony classes at universities, high schools, and Japanese schools, thereby contributing to the promotion of Japanese tea ceremony, also known as Chanoyu, and Japanese culture, as well as the facilitation of cultural exchange. Every year, the Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas. The Commendations also aim to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public for the activities of the recipients. # # #
