Thursday | August 1, 2024 Otakon Matsuri We are joining the first Otakon Matsuri in Washington, DC. Stop by our table to learn more about the exciting programs and events offered at our Japan Information & Culture Center! Also, don’t miss our on-stage performance of a Yosakoi Soran (よさこいソーラン) Sou Odori (総踊り) at 6:25PM. This traditional style of Japanese dance is performed across Japan and started in Hokkaido Prefecture. |

Hear from career professionals, a Japanese language professor, and a representative from the Embassy of Japan about their Japanese language journeys. The panel will include a discussion on the “Hows” and “Whys” of studying Japanese and will conclude with a Q&A session with the audience. |

Saturday | August 3, 2024 | 3:15PM | Panel 4 Japanese Technology and Anime in the '90s The 1990s could be described as a golden period for science fiction anime, but new technologies affected anime behind the scenes as well. Join the Embassy of Japan and Dr. Amanda Kennell, Assistant Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Notre Dame, for a discussion of how new technologies came together with anime in the 1990s to create pivotal works of art – including Serial Experiments Lain in particular, that continue to affect culture today. The presentation and discussion will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience. |
